“treesum” Filetype Indicators¶
Description¶
File and directory paths are printed using names similar to calling ls -F or ls --classify. The indicator strings (aka “marker” or “tags”) are appended to their names as follows.
In an aggregated directory message digest (i.e. the last digest record at the end of a block)—if the path equals:
.or an empty stringNormal aggregated message digest and/or size.
The dot
.is used in tabular output style, the empty string in the tagged style.
./@@Symlink to some filesystem object; the target type is ignored.
Used in physical mode (i.e when not following symlinks for commandline arguments) if the target type is willently ignored. Therefore the link may be broken or not.
This marker is seen only when option
--ignore-symlink-typeis in effect.
./@/Symlink to directory.
./@Symlink to other filesystem object. Also used if the link is broken and the target type cannot determined.
“Normal” paths that end with:
/./@@Symlink to some filesystem object; the target type is ignored.
Used in physical mode (i.e when not following symlinks to files and/or directories) if the target type is willently ignored. Therefore the link may be broken or not.
This marker is only used when options
--no-follow-directory-symlinks,--no-follow-file-symlinksand--ignore-symlink-typeare in effect.
/Denotes a directory.
/./@/Denotes a Symlink to a directory.
/./@Classifies a symlink to a regular filesystem object if the target object is not classified as directoriy or other special filesystem object otherwise.
Also used if the link is broken and the target type cannot determined.
Seen only if
--no-ignore-symlink-typeis in effect and target types should not ignored.
/./|,/./@|FIFO and symlink to FIFO.
/./=,/./@=Socket and symlink to socket.
/./>,/./@>Door (Solaris) and symlink to door.
/./%,/./@%Whiteout and symlink to whiteout (used by union filesystems) (BSD).
Other non-standard path endings are:
/./:,/./@:Character special and symlink to character special.
/./;,/./@;Block special and symlink to block special.
/./+,/./@+Event port (Solaris, Illumos) and symlink to event port.
All other paths denote a “normal” file.
Note
Executable file have no special indicator here.
The command ls -F would use * for files that are
executable.
This marker is not used here.

py-treesum before version 1.0;
backwards compatibility is not really retained before version 1.0.
